Amazing Grace (나 같은 죄인 살리신)

 

72년 영국 성공회 사제인 John Newton이 작사한 찬송가. 노예선 선장으로 흑인 노예무역에 관여한 것을 깊이 후회하고 사하여 준 하느님의 은총에 감사하는 마음을 담고 있다. 60여년이 지난 1835년 오늘날 불리고 있는 멜로디에 맞춰진다. 미국에서 애창되며, 백파이프 오르간으로 연주. 옛날 70년대 영어 회화공부하려 휘경동 위생병원(현, 삼육서울병원)내 SDA학원 다닐 때 미국인 20대 선교사 강사들 리드로 자주 부른 추억.

'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear

And grace my fears relieved

How precious did that grace appear

The hour I first believed.

 

Through many dangers, toils and snares
