(13) Love is A Many Splendored Thing(慕情)

1955년 영화 모정(慕情)의 가사 없는 Movie Theme Song(작곡: Alfred Newman)을 4인조 남성 보컬그룹 The Four Aces가 같은 해 개봉전 Pop song으로 발표합니다(작사: Sammy Fain, Paul Francis Webster). 영화의 흥행과 더불어 Nat King Cole, Andy Williams(1962), Frank Sinatra 등 유명가수들이 리메이크합니다.

 

한국전쟁과 홍콩을 배경으로한 영화와 팦송 원곡 모두 한국에서도 큰 인기를 끌어 1956년 백호 역사(譯詞), 박춘석 편곡, 백일희(白一姬) 노래로 번안곡 ‘사랑은 아름다워’가 출시되며 1959년에는 모정(1959년)으로 제목을 바꿉니다. 최근에는 조명섭  영어곡도 발표될 정도로 꾸준한 인기를 유지하고 있는 명곡입니다.
